bm1 - Too good to let go!
bm1

For thousands of years birch-bark* held a similar technical ranking to that of synthetic materials in today's modern world. Inspired by the traditional craft techniques of northern indigenous peoples, we have – besides time, money and research - invested a lot of passion to make this almost forgotten raw material useable for today's applications. Our quest has led to creating a high-quality and endurable material – with the uniqueness and properties of birch-bark: bm1.

With the varied and, at the same time, discrete texture, bm1 convinces at first touch with its pleasant, comfortable velvet-warm feel. It moulds itself to your hand as one. Its technical properties enable a wide range of product possibilities. bm1 is:

  • extremely long-lasting
  • very light
  • resistant to fungus and bacteria
  • water-resistant
  • insulating against heat and sound
  • easy to grip, even when wet
  • easy to care for
  • durable and ecologically produced
  • flexible, soft, yet extremely strong
  • ph value: 5.5 (identical to human skin)

Birch-bark, besides its tangible, visual and technical merits, demands astonishing high workmanship skills if we want to preserve all its positive properties.

All our products are carefully handcrafted in an elaborate work of love. We are committed to quality. Each piece of work is unique; an original in its own right. A characteristic born out of its own individual varied texture of which no two can ever be identical.

* For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that we are, in fact, referring to the rhytidome. The actual bark of the birch lies beneath this outer layer of the tree. However, since the term birch-bark is used in everyday language for the outermost layer of this tree, we are intentionally indulging in this factual error by using this vernacular term accordingly. The academically trained biology-conscious reader will hopefully bear with us.
